During the nineteenth century the West End of London become fashionable and ripe for development. In 1825, Thomas Cubitt was contracted by Lord Grosvenor to develop Pimlico. The marshy land was reclaimed using soil excavated when St Katharine Docks were built. These beautiful houses can still be seen laid out in their grid design.
